Klutz Quilting

I’ve always wanted to learn quilting, but I have never been able to find a totally idiot proof, super-simple beginner quilting book that comes with all of the starter supplies and is affordable. Then I saw the Klutz Quilting book at Michael’s craft store. I asked my husband to get it for me for Christmas.

It is really neat and it comes with some pretty fabric and all the other supplies you need. It’s made for teens, so it is really easy to follow. Now I feel like I have a base of knowledge to go forward with on to bigger quilting projects.

The first thing I made was this table mat. It came out pretty nice.

OK, now I’m pestering you all the way over here als. I am perpetually up to my neck in crafts. Recently I’ve been knitting little dog sweaters - but I went through a pretty major quilting phase a few years back. So, I’m curious, did you piece the little pinwheel one by hand? I hate hand quilting but I have so much respect for people who have the patience.

Hey, Tirade. You can pester me anytime. I want to see the dog sweaters!

I did do it all by hand, but the cool thing about the Klutz Quilting set is that it comes with fabric squares that are printed to look like two triangles sewn together. So, I sewed together squares, but it looks like triangles. To make it look even more like triangles, I quilted along the diagonals.

At the end of the book, it shows how to make your own projects using your own fabric and actual triangles. I am doing that now.

I like to do things by hand because it relaxes me.

    Thanks for visiting.

Great work! The binding looks perfect too (my corners always get messed up) I quilted a few potholders and things by hand - but once I got into maching quilting, I never looked back. I worked part time at a quilting store in S. Burl. for a few years but sadly, they closed not too long ago.

If you decide to keep quilting, I’d say that JoAnn has the best selection of nice (cheap) cotton fabrics. Just a little FYI.
