Projects in progress

Here are a couple of things I am working on right now.

I am making a patchwork pillow for my son Painter Smurf out of Batman fabric. Here are a couple of strips. I put it aside because I am making knit bunnies for the kids Easter baskets.

I am also making a new scarf on the Knifty Knitter round looms. Those things are awesome. I always wanted to get into knitting, but I have a hard time keeping count of my stitches with the kids are around – which is always. The looms are great because you can put it down and pick it right back up.

It only comes with instructions on how to knit a round thing, like a hat, but there are a lot of resources where you can learn to knit flat pieces and also purl, so you can do almost any stitch that you can needle knit.

Here is the scarf I am working on. I am going to have to get back to my bunnies (which I have no pictures of), so I will have to finish this later.

Very cool scarf. I finished another dog sweater today. I have to remember to take pictures. It’s hard to get the little guy to hold still for the camera but I’ll see what I can do.

Sometimes I wonder how it is that I’m able to do so many things every day (read the newspaper, knit, sew, blog). I think, wow, I’m so functional and productive! Then I remember that I don’t do anything else (like, the things I’m supposed to do). Not having kids makes it easy too. Now you on the other hand – well, I’m totally impressed.

    That’s funny.

Thanks. It’s all about time management. (Don’t be fooled. There are also a TON of things I don’t do that I should like clean the house. Oh yeah, and shower. You are probably thinking eeew, but you’ll understand that one when you have kids.)

The real trick is multi-tasking. I have to sneak in my activities when the kids are busy. I read the paper while they watch their daily AM dose of Arthur. I blog when the kids are busy doing independent activities or playing outside with their friends after school. I also try to make them take an hour of individual quiet time each afternoon, but often that is the time I spend with my toddler.

I usually only knit and stuff when my kids are all in bed. They go to bed for quiet reading time at 8:00 and my husband puts the little one down, so I have some time to do stuff.

Another thing is that I don’t watch TV at night. (Except for my Sunday night guilty pleasure – Desperate Housewives, the funniest show ever – Scrubs, and of course, our weekly fix for our inner geeks – Smallville.) Not watching TV every night really frees up some major time blocks.

I can’t wait to see the dog sweater.
