Today was our eleventh day without a TV in our living room.
This morning, I woke up and came out into the living room to find Big D on the couch reading and Big E in the chair drawing a new superhero he invented. It was so quiet.
No TV is such a good thing.
(Even though I have no time to blog.)

When we got married, our pre-marital counselor said that TV would diminish our romance — no brainer then, we have had no TV for 16 years. We use videos and DVD for the children sometimes. The negative part: we have never been great at giving ourselves regular daily down time which is important. The benefits have been huge: our boys love books, they don’t ask for it since it doesn’t hit their radar, and we are not having to un-do garbage TV values (raising kids is hard enough without having to compete with the flash and dance of the money-driven, no moral compass TV industry). There are some wonderful channels on there.
We need our federal delegation to demand that cable companies give an unbundling option where a customer can pick and choose each channel they want in their home.
Also, our boys are almost clueless about the current toy trends out there which makes shopping a little easier. We want them to have fun toys that help their mind grow but the “gimmes” can make any mama’s life tough when shopping.
Winter months are great for DVDs and videos…my choice of what is watched with no commercials.
