This is a purse that I crocheted. It is actually a sack because I made it for Big D to carry his juggling balls in when he is outside playing. It can also hold a water bottle. It is worn across the chest.
If I was making a purse this style, it would be less long, probably.
I crocheted it in a round, single crochet, using a variegated 100% cotton yarn (Sugar n’ Cream).
I did not want to do a round bottom because I wanted something simpler where I did not have to count stitches. Instead of doing a tube and stitching the bottom, I made up my own method (which I am sure others have done in the past and it probably has a name, but I don’t know it).
First I made a foundation chain the length I wanted the bottom of the purse. Then, I started out doing a single crochet to the end, as if I was doing a flat crochet.
CH 2, then single crochet back down the other side of the chain in the remaining loops (the loops not crocheted in for the first row).
CH 2, then continue on with a single crochet in each stitch in the round (starting with the first single crochet that was made), until the purse is the desired length.
To make the flap, I crocheted back and forth to desired length. I then finished it by doing a slip stitch all around the flap and the opening of the purse. The strap is made by chaining the desired length and then doing a slip stitch in each chain. I also added a crochet button and a button loop tied on the the top of the flap.
I hope that made sense. Feel free to ask questions!
