Well, we’re back. I have so many things I want to post about, but I am so tired. So tired.
On Wednesday, we traveled to Bob’s parents’ house in western Massachusetts to stay the night so we wouldn’t have to do the whole drive at once. They were already at Bob’s grandmother’s house in NY, so we were there alone.
It was just me, Bob, and Little E. Big E and The D stayed with my mother. They never met Bob’s grandfather (Bob is not their biological father) and the drive was going to be very long. I wanted Bob to have time to grieve without having to deal with three kids in the car.
The next morning, we left early to go to Ossining, NY, where Bob’s grandparents live.
Avid Law and Order watchers will recognize that as the location of the Sing Sing Correctional Facility. Bob’s grandfather, and his father before him, was a prison guard there for thirty some-odd years.
The wake was on Thursday. We spent the night in a hotel just outside Chappaqua.
Avid Clinton watchers will recognize that as the location of the home the Clintons bought so Hilary could run for US Senator from New York.
The funeral was Friday. It was a Catholic funeral, which was interesting for me – interesting: weird and interesting: enjoyable.
It was great to see Bob’s family because I really love them, but I wish it had been under different circumstances.
Bob’s grandfather, who I only met once, was an amazing man. Most notable to me was his amazing faith. I plan to write more about that soon, but I really need to go get some rest and spend some time with my husband. (He just came out from putting Little E to bed.)
To wrap up, we stayed another night at Bob’s parents’ on the way home. His father was there this time, but his mother stayed with her mother for another night.
We headed back to Vermont this morning.
Tomorrow morning, we have to drive an hour and 15 minutes to get the boys from my mom’s house before church.
It’s not too bad, though. We go to the slacker service at 11:15.
Now, I am going to go relax and enjoy sleeping in my own bed!
