Even Though Reading Is Its Own Reward

I wanted to share a couple of reading programs that homeschoolers can participate in.

I know there are some parents who oppose this sort of thing, but I am all for getting free stuff for something the kids love to do anyway.

The first is Pizza Hut’s Book It! program. Homeschoolers can register here. You get the materials in September, including coupons for a free personal pan pizza for each month that your child meets his/her reading goal.

The second is Barnes & Noble Booksellers’ summer reading program. The info and downloadable pages are available here. You can also pick up the info sheets at the B&N stores.

The theme this year is Magic Treehouse, which is cool, since The D and Big E have been reading that series lately.

Students need to read eight books and fill out a form with information about the books they read. They receive a free paperback and are entered into a drawing to win an autographed copy of the new Magic Treehouse book to be released in August.

And don’t forget, most public libraries have summer reading programs, too.

Happy reading!
