All Things Hold Together

A blog about cooking, crafting, faith, family…you know, the good stuff.

My kids do not like Halloween. Sure, they like candy, and Little E likes costumes, but they absolutely do not like the scary decorations. They just don’t. Every time we drive by a house or go into a store with Halloween decorations, they grumble about how much they hate Halloween.

Now, I am not going to get up on my soapbox and talk about my opinion of Halloween. Let’s just say, we don’t celebrate it anymore. We haven’t for a few years now.

But Halloween is the kick off of the tri-holiday baking season, and a few scary decorations will not keep me from that!

So, I rounded up a few October recipes that have nothing spook-tacular about them. Just good baking — and eating — fun.

  1. Oh, yum! I want to make some of those caramel apples. This really isn’t the best time to start a diet, is it? Sigh. I will just have to be disciplined to eat only one instead of four. ;)

  2. I don’t like Halloween either. Funny because I did as a kid. I gave it up after studying it out on my own accord. As my kids have gotten older, though (they still complain like yours do - but aren’t the least bit scared any more) they see the value in our abstinence. We do dress up other times of the year with our unit studies. We also take advantage of the peanutbutter kisses that you can ONLY buy this time of year at the grocery store! Oh, and all the after Halloween costume sales for awesome buys on dress up clothes!
