CrockPot Caramel Apples

Yesterday, I decided to try the Crock Pot Caramel Apples recipe from A Year of CrockPotting.

My eager volunteer, Little E, unwrapped all of the caramels and did not eat a single one.

According to the recipe, the caramels go in the crock with 2 tablespoons of water.

The recipe also says to check it every 20 minutes. If you have a houseful of energetic boys who cause a lot of ruckus, a major head cold that prevents you from focusing on pretty much anything, and the kids are extra wound-up because it is Halloween, set a timer. Here is what happens if you don’t keep your eye on the caramels.

I managed to salvage enough caramel to make some apples, but then I had another minor mishap. My bag of craft sticks mysteriously disappeared, so I had to make the apples sans sticks.

Still, they somehow came out tasting pretty good and were a hit.
