I have been doing my Christmas shopping online the past few days and all I can say is, thank you, thank you, thank you, God, for the people who invented the Internet (except that Al Gore guy).
I hate shopping in stores during this insane time of year. The joy of Christmas just brings out the nasty in people.
Today, I had a reminder of exactly how much I hate shopping. The kids and I went downtown so they could try on some pants. We were planning on visiting my sister at her store after, but she had the day off. Since we had some time to kill before an appointment, we went into Lindt to get some truffles.
I got into line, leaving my standard one person space between me and the person in front of me. (I need my space.) Next thing I know, a woman slides into that space and puts her stuff on the counter next to the woman checking out. I was like, What is this woman doing? But then I figured that she must be there with the woman in front of me, since she just butted right in and put her stuff on the counter, so I let it go.
Well, the woman checking out left and that other woman was not with her. So, she basically cut in front of a woman standing there with three kids excited about their truffles and put her stuff on the counter, even though there was someone there, and she was okay with being such a rude person.
But it gets better. She tells the clerk that she is sure she has a rewards card, she just can’t find it. So he proceeds to enter her name and address into the computer.
I am normally pretty patient in stores because I know to expect delays. I accept it as a part of life and try not to get worked up about it. But this woman was getting on my last nerve. Every second that passed was excruciating.
Thankfully, the clerk rang up my truffles on the other register and had her wait a second while he took my exact cash payment that I had ready for him.
I simply cannot imagine having to endure that self-centered, obnoxious behavior for all of my holiday shopping. Which is why I love online shopping.
