Here I Am!

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

I can’t believe that it has been two full weeks since I last blogged and 20 days since I last Twittered.

Things have been mad crazy around here. Big E and D’s bio-dad is visiting from out-of-state, which has caused mondo stress. Our close friends are moving away, so we have been spending a lot of time with them. Little E had a friend from Texas visiting, who is the grandson of our friends that are moving, so there was lots more visiting. Summer Kids Week (aka Vacation Bible School) was last week, so the kids were busy and tired. Bob has been working on the weekend, as his job occasionally requires, leaving me without my usual backup. And we are planning on moving, so there’s the planning and so forth involved in that.

Oh, and I just single-handedly rearranged our living/dining room (or great room, as they are sometimes called).

Lots going on.

Still, I am sorry to just disappear like that.

I need to recommit (again!) to blogging regularly. I have so many cool things I want to share, like recipes, crafts, and decorating ideas. And I want to do some posts about ADHD.

I took a July blogging break from my political blog and now I think I should have done that here, too - formally, I mean.

Anyway, I look forward to getting back in touch with my blog world friends. I hope you are all having a great summer!

Twitter

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Last night I signed up for Twitter.  I wanted to see what all the buzz is about.  At first I thought it was lame, but it’s actually pretty fun.

I put a widget in the sidebar, so you can follow my tweets.

If you Twitter, let me know, so I can follow you.

New Template

Friday, April 4th, 2008

For those of you reading the blog’s feed, you might want to hop on over to the site and check out my new theme (template).

What’s this, like the 100th one I have tried?

I think this will be the last for a while; I really like this one.

Normally, there is something I don’t quite like, but this is a keeper.

Just a Test

I am just testing out the “more” feature.

Template Question

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Are my links too pink?  Should I make them a darker shade?

New Domain (but not for ATHT)

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

I moved my new homeschooling blog, South Meadow Homeschool Academy for Boys, to the domain southmeadowacademy.com.  It was a subdirectory of this domain.

You will need to update your feed.

I also added a handy graphic in the sidebar, so you can get there quickly from here.

Checking In

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

I have been away from the computer lately because I have a terrible cold that is kicking my butt. I have not had an illness this bad in at least two years. I am slowly recovering, but I am still sick.

I will have pictures up later of the little Valentine’s Day graham cracker mock-gingerbread houses we made today.

I’m sick, but not too sick for Valentine’s Day crafts.

Besides, I have had the supplies for these since Christmas! (They were supposed to be Christmas houses, but we never got around to making them. Add conversation hearts and red icing colorant and voila - Valentine’s houses!)

Another New Template (but this one I love)

Updated.

I have not been happy with the theme of this blog since I moved over from Blogger.

I have 11 themes uploaded to this blog. 11!

And I have not been happy with a single one of them.

So, today, I decided that I was going to customize a theme to look how I wanted it to.

I took the theme Shade of Grey and changed the CSS to make it the way I wanted it to look. That took a long time. I was surprised at how many things there are to change when you want to totally redo the color scheme of a blog.

I was also surprised - pleasantly - at how much CSS I know.

Then, I made a custom banner.

And last, I made a new favicon to match. (Though my Firefox still shows the old one, but the new one shows when I view in IE.)

Finally, I can say I like my template.

Now, instead of spending hours working on a new template, I can actually post!

The only thing that I am bummed about is that the picture of the Power Rangers in the spaghetti bowl is gone.

Maybe I will put it in the side bar.

Update: The Power Rangers are back.  And my favicon is now showing up.  All is right with the blog.

Things I Learned the Hard Way

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

I have gone through about 6 different wordpress themes in the past 18 hours.  Here are some of the things I learned.

  • Do not attempt to change your blog theme when the kids are home and awake.
  • Do not spend an hour making a custom header image for a template without checking if it has a stupid “non-commercial” license that prohibits you from using it on a blog that has affiliate links, if you have any.
  • Some themes will totally screw up your entire blogging software. Not just how the blog looks, but even your ability to write and edit posts.
  • The default theme is not so bad.

(I am going to change it, later when the kids are out playing.)

Checking In

Hello, blog reader.

Sorry that I haven’t posted in a while. I just had a couple of days off. The kids are at my mothers and my husband has been home from work.

Need I say more?

I hope to get back to posting later today.

Have a great day!
